Abstracts are a unique element of TGU because they are so customizable. The following is taken from Types of Characters:
The nature of your Abstract is completely up to you. But they do have a different character profile that needs to be completed and approved before you can play them.
Name: I understand that not all entities have a name that can be understood, but you have to at least have something to refer to it by so that it's RP-able.
Age: There is no limit on their age; it can be anywhere from 0 to infinity.
Type: Again, this is up to you. Right now the options on the Types of Characters page are Demons, Doppelgangers, Poltergeists, Guardians, and Guides. But really, we want you to contribute your own types to make things more diverse!
If you have an original type you'd like to play, please try to describe it in great detail in this section. When a mod reviews your profile, this part will be looked at from all angles: Is this Abstract too powerful? What can be altered to make them vulnerable? If you can fix those problems before the mod even reviews them, you'll get approved much faster!
Location: Self-explanatory.
History: You need something here, it doesn't matter how much you include, but you need at least 3 sentences. What has this character been doing their entire existence?
Purpose: In this section, you need to include the reason why they are in the world of the living. It's similar to where a ghost character has to list the type of haunting, except since Abstracts aren't ghosts, it doesn't have the same types. You can think of whatever the hell you want to include here, but you have to provide something.
Other: Anything else you think is worth knowing, please stick it here!
Basically the “everything else” category. Demons, doppelgangers, poltergeists, etcetera. The character profile of an Abstract is completely different from that of a ghost or a living person. They’re not listed under either because they aren’t necessarily alive or dead.
Abstracts are only completely visible to experienced Mediums; they can appear to Seers and inexperienced Mediums but it’s usually as some sort of blur or just a feeling of a presence of some sort.
Other than that, the rest of the character is pretty much up to the person who is playing them. Do they look like a human, or are they more animalistic? Do they have a soul, and if they have a soul can they feel human emotions like sadness and love? If they don’t have a soul, what is their purpose in the world of the living? And if they don’t have a purpose, what do they do in the world of the living?
